A county-wide elected office with a four year term, the collector’s position is held by Jayne Williams.  Mrs. Williams took office as county collector in 1999.

The Maries County collector of revenue is the elected official responsible for collecting current and delinquent property taxes for the county and various political subdivisions within the county which have certified property tax levies.

The collector is responsible for the accounting and distribution of tax collections to 30 political subdivisions within the county. The collector also issues merchant and manufactures license for businesses in the county.

By law, the collector must use legal means to collect delinquent taxes. The collector’s office provides services relating to processing tax payments from escrowed accounts held by mortgage holders on behalf of real estate owners.  Primary tax records are maintained and held for public use within the collector’s office.

Office Information

 Tax bills are mailed the first part of November and due no later than December 31 each year.  The postmark determines the timeliness of payment.  For example, a payment mailed and postmarked on December 29 is considered paid on time even though the collector’s office does not receive the payment until January 2.  If a tax bill is not received by the second week in December, contact my office.  Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the obligation to pay taxes and applicable late fees.  Taxes not paid in full on or before December 31 will accrue penalties and late fees.

  

Payments with credit/debit card

Payments may be made through our payment processing center. (forte payment center).  My office can no longer take your card numbers over the phone.   Forte’s phone number to call is 877-690-3729. They will ask you for a jurisdiction code which is 3554. They will then ask for a bill number for each bill you are wanting to pay. If you do not have this number, please call my office and we will provide that number to you. There is a 2.45% convenience fee (minimum of $1.55) that is charged. Debit cards are charged a $4.00 flat fee. You will be provided a confirmation number at the end of your call.  I do accept credit/debit cards in the office with the same fees being applied.
